Family of Man Council Knight of the Month June 2019
The Family of Man Council is proud to announce that our Worthy Chaplain, Father Donald Heet, OSFS has been named the Knight of the Month for June 2019. Father Heet leads the council spiritually through very thoughtful and thought-provoking Chaplain messages and graces the council with impactful prayer.
Fr. Heet was born in Dayton, Ohio on October 9, 1946. He grew up in Dayton, Cleveland and Toledo, before entering the Oblates of St. Francis de Sales, a religious order of priests and brothers, in 1964. He graduated from Allentown College of St. Francis de Sales with a B.A. in English, and earned a Masters degree in English from the University of Michigan in 1972 and a Masters degree in Speech and Drama from The Catholic University of America in 1975.
In 1976 he was ordained a priest and taught English, Theater, and Religion at Bishop Ireton High School in Alexandria, VA until he was appointed founding principal of Paul VI High School in Fairfax, VA in 1983. In 1991 he was named religious superior of DeSales Theological Center in Washington, DC, where he also taught preaching. In October, 1998 he received a Doctor of Ministry degree from The Catholic University of America. In the fall of that year, he joined the faculty at CUA where he taught homiletics, pastoral theology, and adult religious education, and directed the Doctor of Ministry Program until 2010. He served as the vocation director of the Oblates of St. Francis de Sales, Wilmington-Philadelphia Province for three years before being appointed parochial vicar at St. John Neumann parish in Reston VA in July of 2013.
He continues to teach homiletics, give workshops on preaching, lecturing and evangelization, and preach retreats in Northern Virginia and in various dioceses across the country. Congratulations to Fr. Heet on being the Knight of the Month for June 2019.
