KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS
The Scholarship Committee of the Family of Man Council is pleased to announce this year’s recipients of the 2017 Knights of Columbus Scholarships. Out of the thirteen applications that were submitted to the Committee for review and consideration, three students were selected to each receive $1,000 scholarships. On behalf of the Family of Man Council and the Scholarship Committee, we would like to congratulate the students listed below for their significant achievements and contributions to their school, St. John Neumann Parish and our community.
The following is a description of each of the scholarship recipient's accomplishments that follows in the order of their school photo as posted in this article:
Ms. Jessica Lister is graduating from South Lakes High School and scheduled to attend Virginia Commonwealth University this fall. Ms. Lister is a member of the National English Honor Society, the College Partnership Program and a member of Varsity Track and Field. Her volunteer activities include She Rocks the World Ambassador, a global network of young girls making a positive impact on our world as well as a Counselor/Coach for South Lakes Girl’s Summer and Upwards Basketball Camps and Potomac River Youth Track Team.
Ms. Lydia Lodge is graduating from Oakton High School and scheduled to attend Virginia Tech this fall. Ms. Lodge is a member of the National Honor and Science Honor Societies, Varsity Gymnastics, 2017 SGA President at Oakton High School, and received the 2017 Scholar Athlete Award. Her volunteer activities include the Hypothermia Shelter at St. John Neumann (SJN), Arlington Diocesan Work Camp for the past three years and served on the SJN Youth Pastoral Council for three years.
Mr. John Swecker is graduating from South Lakes High School and scheduled to attend Virginia Tech this fall. Mr. Swecker is a member of the National Honor Society, the debate team, Endorphin Triathlon Member and track and field. His volunteer activities include being a Founding Member (with family) of the Joshua’s Epilepsy 5K Walk/Run for SUDEP. Arlington Diocesan Work Camp and Volunteer with SJN Life+Savers in the FACETS breakfast delivery.
