Ed and Claire Walsh have been selected as the Council's Family of the Month for December because of their dedicated service to various activities and programs at St. John Neumann. Ed has been a Knight since September 1999 and was the Grand Knight at his College of William & Mary’s Council as well as Grand Knight of our Council in 2010-2011. Ed and Claire have been parishioners at St. John Neumann for 10 years. Ed is a catechist for his son Sean's 1st Grade and Claire is a volunteer with the SJN Mothers’ Group.
Each year, St. John Neumann hosts homeless guests for a week. We provide our guests with food, fellowship and a warm place to sleep. This year we will be hosting up to 80 guests. Our faith partners are St. Thomas à Becket and St. Mark Catholic Churches, and Congregation Beth Emeth. Our two facilitators are FACETS and Northern Virginia Family Services.
The Council's 7th Annual Chili Cook-Off was held on November 22 in the SJN Auditorium and it was great. We had 13 delicious entries as well as some non-competitive chilies served up by our aspiring and creative chefs. The proud winners this were 3rd Place – Sir Knight Chris Gallagher, First Place Winner (and 2010 Champion) – Brother John Gereardts, and 2nd Place – first time entrant Brother Andy Hnatiw. All the chilies were mouth-watering, and in a few cases mouth-burning, delicious. Special guests included our Past and Current District Deputies SK Bill Cinnamond and SK Phil Bayer.
