Family of Man Council to Hold Charity Breakfast in Support of Missionaries of the Poor

The Family of Man Council of the Knights of Columbus will host our next Charity Breakfast on Sunday, March 5, 2023. Breakfast will be served in the Brown-McCarthy Auditorium at St John Neumann Parish from after the 7:30 AM Mass until the beginning of the 11:30 AM Mass. The designated charity of your free-will donations is the Missionaries of the Poor.

Initially founded in Jamaica in 1981 with only four members, the community set as one of its main objectives to build family and community among the poor and disadvantaged. A year later, the community received approval from the bishop of Kingston, Jamaica. The brothers began their work in a government-run house for the homeless, destitute, and aged, where they succeeded in opening the public's consciousness to the needs and struggles of the poor. They continued their work with prisoners, where they helped to bring to light the need for rehabilitation among prisoners, not mere isolation. Since its founding, the Missionaries of the Poor have received both papal and episcopal approval for their work and constitutions. Today, the order has over 550 brothers serving in nine missions worldwide. You can read more about the community at their website https://missionariesofthepoor.org

Please join your fellow parishioners for a delicious breakfast and assist this special community that helps the poor and disadvantaged.
