The Knights of Columbus Family of Man Council #7566 selected the Schoka Family as the Council’s Family of the Month for October. A long-time member of Council #7566, Andy Schoka and his wife, Rita, have been members of the Saint John Neumann Parish community since its inception in the early 1980s.
During those early days, Andy served as president of the Parish Council, supporting Father Jack Heenan. Andy also played a leading role in organizing and scheduling parish volunteers to usher on Sundays and holiday Masses. Also during that time, Rita started, and continues to date, her food missions to places such as Carpenter Shelter in Alexandria; Lamb Center in Fairfax; and Sisters of Charity in Washington, D.C. She coordinates the numerous volunteers who make meals for these places. After retiring from his career as an information systems engineer, Andy interacts with various seniors both in and outside the SJN Parish to help them use their computers, smart phones, and tablets. He currently volunteers to help with the online streaming and video processing of the recorded weekend Masses.
Congratulations to Andy and Rita on receiving this recognition!
